Sherri’s roots in the Central and Eastern part of the County are deep and historic. Toward the tail end of the famous Anti-Rent War, on August 10, 1844, her fourth great-uncle, Tobias Houghtailing, was tarred and feathered for serving papers on behalf of the Sheriff, which defied the cause of the land tenants who disguised themselves as Calico Indians. Instigator of the harsh punishment was none other than “Chief Tecumseh” aka, John W. McIntyre, Sherri’s fourth great-grandfather! Generations of farmers on her maternal grandmother’s side lived in Arena, one of four towns demolished to create the Pepacton Reservoir. In the 1940’s, Sherri’s great-uncle Casper Edwards was the owner of the Turnwood Store and Post Office located in the Beaverkill Valley. Her paternal great-grandmother loved to recall trips she made with her family as a little girl to visit renowned naturalist and essayist, John Burroughs, at his home in Roxbury. They traveled by means of horse and buggy on the Catskill Turnpike.
After earning a B.S. in Accounting and Business Economics, Sherri worked in various accounting positions, but was primarily a stay-at-home mom. In 2005, when her children were old enough, she pursued a career in real estate. This endeavor combines her love of homes, interior decorating, and meeting new people with her affinity for driving back country roads!
